Half a Hundred Tigers in Vietnam Die After H5N1 Bird Flu Outbreak

Today (4 Oct 2014), foreign news agencies reported that three lions, one black leopard, and 47 tigers have died from bird flu since August. Outbreaks of the H5N1 bird flu virus have occurred at the Vuon Xoai Zoo near Ho Chi Minh City and the My Quynh Safari Park in neighboring Long An Province. Zoo officials told Reuters the animals likely fell ill after eating infected chicken meat.
